Walk Like MADD 2012 Wrap-Up

First and foremost, thanks go out to all that walked, either in person or as a "virtual walker." From your efforts, MADD of Central Virginia was able to raise several thousands of dollars that go toward eliminating drunk driving.

Arriving at Dorey Park bright and early, we found that the MADD crew had already set up near the lake. The weather was perfect - sunny, but not too humid or warm. As guests arrived, it became clear that many people had been either affected by drunk driving, or support those that have.  However, most were upbeat about supporting this cause.

At the opening ceremony, the moment turned somber as a prayer was offered in memory to those lost, before event organizer Chris Konschak got the walk started.

The course followed along the pond before going through the hiking trail in the woods, which lead back to the main road - around the softball field, and back to the start line. It was impressive to see so many people walk, including Team Napper of the Ft. Lee Police Department.

Team Napper was started by Sgt. Napper, who recently passed away. The team continues to walk in his memory.

Also in attendance was Mrs. Virginia 2012, Brandi Pope. Besides being a role model for the younger children in attendance and giving autographs, she walked the course. Mrs. Pope said she had never attended this event before, but hopes to keep coming each year.

As the music provided by Celebrity Radio DJ's Jason Page faded away, many left knowing they had directly contributed to help stop drunk driving - permanently.

Richmond Homearama

It's that time of year - with spring starting to crank the heat (and the humidity that turns Richmond into a sauna come summer), it's time to start thinking about all those little repairs and upgrades you want to add to your house.

And, being that now is the right time of year to start getting everything together to complete these projects, the folks at the Home Building Association of Richmond are about the open the doors to display all the new home building techniques... and, of course, give you more ideas on how to accomplish your remodeling goals.

This year, Richmond Homearama 2012 will be held at Summer Lake in Chesterfield County. Among some of the highlights of these model homes are the builders' and interior designers' passions for creating convenient, luxurious spaces your whole family can benefit from.

One of the coolest features we found from their preview weekend was Orleans Homes' "Parental Command Center," a flex office built right into the corner of the kitchen/dining area/family room where those running the ship have a way to keep watch on the crew while plotting their course. (... and make cookie runs a whole lot easier)

Don't miss your chance to view ideas like this at Richmond Homearama 2012, open April 21st to May 6th, Wednesday through Sunday, 12-8pm. Tickets and additional event information can be found here.
