Richmond Cure By Design

Alex Garfield is a fashion designer from New York City - he has spent countless hours dedicated to ensuring the cancer survivors at Cure By Design are dressed their best. Although the audio quality is relatively poor (crowded room), we were lucky to catch up with him before the show.

Here's a few examples of his work on the survivors that walked the runway:

T.W. Bruno To Be Honored As Volunteer Attorney of the Year

Greater Richmond Bar Foundation To Commemorate National Pro Bono Week At Special Reception and Award Presentation at Virginia War Memorial

(Richmond)Attorney Thomas W. Bruno will be honored as the 2012 Volunteer of the Year by the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation (GRBF) at a special reception Tuesday, October 23 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Virginia War Memorial.

Bruno, an associate with the McGuireWoods law firm, is being honored for providing pro bono legal services to Family Healing Place for Veterans, a nonprofit that provides overnight accommodations and recreational activities for wounded and disabled veterans and their families. He is a volunteer with the GRBF’s Pro Bono Clearinghouse which links attorneys to provide pro bono legal assistance to area nonprofit organizations.

“The theme of our reception is to honor those who give good advice to those doing good,” said Leslie Haley, president of the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation’s board of directors.

“Providing free legal assistance to nonprofits is the purpose of the Pro Bono Clearinghouse.  Our attorneys want to give back to their communities, and we want to encourage all nonprofits to learn more about and take advantage of the services the Clearinghouse and our volunteer attorneys offer. This year, our volunteer attorneys gave back over 540 pro bono hours valued at over $175,000 to nonprofits in Central Virginia.”

“This year, we are pleased to name our annual recognition the Benjamin Rice Lacy IV Pro Bono Clearinghouse Volunteer of the Year Award in honor of the late Mr. Lacy, an attorney with the Sands Anderson firm, who was the first recipient of the award in 2008,” Haley noted.

“The Volunteer of the Year Reception is the highlight of the GRBF’s celebration of the American Bar Association’s National Pro Bono Week, October 22-26,” Haley added. “We especially wish to thank our corporate sponsors, Haley Buick GMC and Dominion for their support in making this event possible.”

About the GBRF

The Greater Richmond Bar Foundation expands public access to the justice system in central Virginia by facilitating the delivery of pro bono legal services and service projects.  In addition to the Pro Bono Clearinghouse, GRBF has focused on improving service delivery to low income individuals through its work on the JusticeServer™ project, an on-line case management and skills-based pro bono volunteer matching system.  By leveraging technology, JusticeServer will increase the capacity of legal service providers and connect the attorney volunteers to the most critical legal needs in our community.

Falling 400 Feet

Who has two thumbs and is going to rappel down the side of the SunTrust Building in downtown Richmond on October 18th at 11am? This guy!

Not pictured: full-body harness and a willingness to go Over The Edge

This is Tom Jones, one of our staff members here at Haley Buick GMC. You might recognize him from some of our Facebook pictures, or his Twitter handle @jonesatom.

What's the fun of a 25 story tower if you can't go Over The Edge?

When he heard that we have a unique opportunity with Special Olympics Virginia to go 400 feet straight down the SunTrust Building, he leaped at the opportunity!

Guts n Glory - from the Richmond Times-Dispatch

While he has about two weeks from this post to get his courage up, we hope you'll make time in your calendar to come watch him on Thursday, October 18th, at 11am.

If you can't make his descent, we hope you can at least be with us in spirit while supporting Special Olympics Virginia by following @OverTheEdgeVa, @SOlympicsVA, and @HaleyBuickGMC on Twitter and joining the conversation!
